Pay it forward
Everyone talks about saving our natural resources. We only have one earth. This is true and important. Let's remember one more easy and most precious resource to protect and save - that person walking right past you on the same sidewalk, hallway, elevator. That person in the grocery line with you. The restaurant server, the mail carrier, the one coming home at night who needs to be treated like when you first got together -or maybe even better now that you know what they really like....
Random Acts of Kindness. It may be nothing more than a smile or just an extra moment to mention 'thank you for what you do everyday'. It may mean asking if you can pay for their groceries. It may mean anonymously buying lunch for the person sitting alone at their table. It is amazing what the acknowledgement of being seen, being recognized as valuable can do. Pay it forward with time, love, kindness, compassion. The return on investment is priceless.
...and don't forget to be kind to the person looking back at you in the mirror - you are worth it! Today is a great day- it started when you woke up!

2011 may have started off with cold and snow but...
2011 seems to have turned nearly every corner of the country into some sort of a winter statement. It's black ice and deep snow and cold winds. Welllll, let's not take it anymore! I am starting spring early and spreading it around like a virus. It's amazing how many people that look mad in the store aisle smile back when I take the time to make eye contact and smile as I pass. It's enjoyable to pass the time in a slow check-out line by talking 'small talk' - "how about those Packers", "really like that hat you have on" (and it goes well with your blue nose ). I like reaching the last jar of chicken bouillion on the top shelf in the store for the woman who reminds me of my grandma. It's great to scoop the snow with my husband instead of 'working' inside while I hear his shovel scraping the pavement. It's nice to go for a drive as the sun is going down and see a fog settle over the lower fields and river , see the deer begin to move to their home for the night and the hear the geese call to each other as they fly over me on their way to nest. Yep, spring is right around the corner - find your flip-flops!
